The Scholz Alnico SugarCone is the result of years of development, careful engineering, and a design challenge that evolved into something far more special than originally planned.

Audio Eyra approached us with a clear request:
recreate the legendary EV SRO alnico speaker.

The goal was to capture that unmistakable classic alnico bloom, touch sensitivity, and harmonic warmth—without the extreme 10-lb magnets and $500 production cost that would make it unrealistic for modern players.

But as we refined the magnet structure, the cone behavior, and the suspension, what emerged wasn’t an SRO clone at all.

It was better.

The very first prototypes surpassed expectations—ours, Audio Eyra’s, and anyone who heard them. They delivered the classic alnico feel but with the clarity, resonance, and voicing that define the Scholz SugarCone lineage.

This became the foundation for the Alnico SugarCone Series, now available exclusively through Audio Eyra.

Designed for Classic Tone — Engineered for Modern Players

Alnico has skyrocketed in price over the years. A traditional high-mass alnico design using a 10-lb magnet would push a single speaker’s production cost toward $500 before assembly.

Instead, we engineered a more efficient alnico system with a 42 oz magnet that maintains the signature tonal behavior of classic alnico while keeping weight and cost under control—all without sacrificing the compression, sweetness, and musicality players expect.

Voiced using the same cone as our ferrite SugarCone models, the 12" delivers the familiar midrange, articulation, and sparkle SugarCones are known for—now paired with the smooth, organic compression of alnico.

Perfect for combos, recording setups, and players who want the classic SugarCone tone with added sweetness and touch sensitivity.

🎵 15" Alnico SugarCone (AEC-15SA)

The 15" features a newly designed ribbed cone for extended low-end response, deeper projection, and an expanded sense of “space” and dimensionality. It’s not just a bigger 12" — it’s a completely different voice.

If you want massive bass extension without losing clarity or articulation, this is it.

Audio Eyra’s real-world testing of the 12" and 15" models shows:
